Creativity strikes again, giving the BIG BUX industry the need
for a band-aid! This baby has a lot to do with what original
music SHOULD sound like, but seldom does. Well, a band usually
draws from influence certain characteristics which tend to be
familiar or appealing, and incorporate them into their own sound.
Grunge begets grunge, as it were. Things are a bit different
concerning Shave Librarian (Shave being a slang term for surreal
perfection).
At first I found myself not being able to identify what 'category'
that I could shut this music into, but that in itself made it
a challenging listening experience. It feels like a 'concept-album-without-a-concept,'
which can be a blast- laughing at those who just don't get it.
It IS an audio performance presented in tightly constructed
vignettes, closely resembling songs. Many musical styles are
represented whithin, and the words are all quite surreal, if
not a bit idiosyncratic. Thus the concept feel.
I am pretty amazed with this tape, with its progressive art
music/poetry feel, and I'd recommend it to the ones who dig
the rather bizarre, or just an incredible, original listening
experience. And when you do, try not to miss my favorites, 'Tricolate,'
'Indian Rug,' 'Calamity Jane,' & 'Key Surfano.'"
